Ideology
Puritiste was born out of a desire to repurpose discarded materials into wearable pieces of art. With a passion for corsets and antique designs, Nikita develops vintage inspired designs for the modern individual.
The pillow pants are inspired by culottes — Initially designed for men in the 1700s, culottes have been making a comeback every few decades and while opinions can be polarizing, Nikita loved the style since day one. Not so fun fact, in the 1930s, women were arrested in Paris for wearing culottes in public. French law expressly forbade women from wearing pants unless she was “holding a bicycle handlebar or the reigns of a horse."
Sustainably Sourced Materials
Nikita's first priority is sustainability. Every single item is made with previously discarded materials and occasionally, deadstock fabric. Most materials are sourced from the Goodwill Bins or local thrift stores — bedsheets, pillow cases, tablecloths and blankets are donated and discarded daily. Puritiste is saving these fibers from ending up in landfills, one pair of pillow pants at a time.
